The Campaign for Markese JordanMarkese Jordan headshot

Markese Jordan is a Guardian Scholar, one of 155 SDSU students who have successfully navigated the difficult journey from the foster care system to our university campus. At SDSU, Guardian Scholars receive comprehensive services, including tutoring, year-round housing, mentoring and significant scholarship support.

Only 3 percent of foster youth enroll in college and less than 3 percent of those who enroll go on to graduate. Markese beat the odds. A double major in international business and statistics, he also studies Arabic language and culture and spent a semester abroad in Dubai to prepare for a career in the Middle East.

The Campaign for SDSU has raised $106 million for scholarships to support Guardian Scholars and thousands of other students who struggle with the financial commitment that higher education requires. With your help, SDSU is making college affordable for students with the academic credentials and personal motivation to become Aztecs for Life.

Leave a Legacy

We’re thinking about the future. Planned gifts, also called bequests, have the power to change lives and transform San Diego State University.
Donors who make planned gifts to SDSU as part of their long-term estate plans strengthen the university for future generations of students and faculty.
The vision and generosity of these donors ensures continuing excellence in our efforts to support student success, research and creative endeavors.

Building an Endowment

Donor generosity has enabled San Diego State to build its endowment—defined as gifts of cash and securities invested to support the university’s growth. More than 100 newly endowed faculty positions, academic programs, student scholarships and graduate fellowships have been established in the last five years.

The importance of a healthy endowment cannot be overstated. America’s best universities have large endowments, allowing them to move to increasingly higher levels of excellence in academic programming and research.

With your help, SDSU will continue to increase endowed programs, scholarships and research positions that guarantee the highest quality education for future Aztecs.

Student Success
Raising funds for student scholarships has been a priority throughout The Campaign for SDSU. With strong support from donors, SDSU has raised $90 million in new scholarship funding since 2007.

Our initiatives expand opportunities for all students, especially those who face economic challenges. Through programs like the Guardian Scholars, the Merit Scholars, the Compact Scholars and the Price Scholars, SDSU is committed to providing financial assistance for qualified young men and women determined to earn college degrees and make lasting contributions to their communities.
