The Campaign Initiatives

The Campaign for Ana

Ana Morino came to SDSU to study aerospace engineering. Along the way, she joined the Society of Women Engineers, the SDSU Rocket Project and led Aztec Baja SAE team’s efforts to design and manufacture an off-road race car. She also found a mentor in SDSU alumnus Jordan Evans, (‘93), who helped her secure a summer internship at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, where he is manager for the mechanical systems division. The Campaign for SDSU impacts every student at SDSU—by supporting faculty and facilities, recruiting alumni as mentors and providing scholarships that enable high achieving students like Ana to pursue their dreams.

Build the Endowment
America’s best universities have large endowments, enabling them to reach increasingly higher levels of academic excellence. Endowments can support scholarships; specialized faculty positions and department chairs; graduate fellowships; and academic programs supporting entrepreneurship, leadership, outstanding scholarship and other components of excellence in higher education.
Donor generosity has built San Diego State University’s endowment—defined as gifts of cash and securities invested to support the university’s growth. More than 150 new bequests have been established during The Campaign for SDSU, increasing the university’s total endowment to over $200 million, with a goal of $300 million by the end of the campaign.

Engineering and Interdisciplinary Sciences Complex
San Diego State’s continued advancement as a research intensive university depends upon the dynamic collaboration of its leading research faculty. The rise in academia and industry of cross-disciplinary specialties such as geoengineering, bioengineering and computer engineering is a testament to the success of collaborative ventures between researchers in separate but related fields.

The university broke ground in fall 2015 on a new Engineering and Interdisciplinary Sciences Complex, which will stimulate interdisciplinary work on common goals in the STEM disciplines. Donor support is vital to the completion of this ambitious project.

Endowed Faculty Chairs
Impactful research continues to propel San Diego State into the upper tier of national public research institutions. SDSU faculty are involved in complex and entrepreneurial research with positive implications for the nation’s economic, human and social health.

Endowed giving can support specific research areas or fund a faculty chair, such as the Thomas and Evelyn Page Dean of the College of Business Administration Endowment and the Conrad Prebys Chair in Biomedical Research. These gifts facilitate the important work of SDSU’s faculty and administrators.

Endowed Research and Faculty Scholarships
Scholarships are a key element in student success. They finance not only tuition, fees and books, but also enrichment opportunities, such as internships and study abroad experiences.
Endowed scholarships provide a stable, ongoing source of support for Aztec students. Moreover, they create a legacy of giving that can only grow as today’s scholarship recipients become SDSU’s future donors.
