The concert will feature the Marching Aztecs’ winds, drumline, auxiliary corps and dance team under the direction of Bryan K. Ransom, SDSU’s director of athletic bands. They will play a sampling of music to be performed during the 2012 marching season.
According to Ransom, what is becoming an annual tradition for the Marching Aztecs began in 2009 as an impromptu performance on the last day of band camp.
“We were rehearsing in Smith Recital Hall and the air conditioning was out,” he remembers. “I decided on a whim to bring the band and color guard out to what was a very quiet center of campus.
“We set up some concert arcs and starting playing through some tunes and soon we had quite a crowd watching and listening. I decided then that this should be a recurring event."
The concert is open to the public. Short-term parking permits are available at kiosks in most SDSU public parking structures.
