Cambria Briggs supports mortgage loss mitigation and the Orange County market president’s office. In her role, she is responsible for aligning HR strategy to support business performance. She partners with the business on organizational assessments, staffing forecasts, compensation planning, and other employee relations activities.

Cambria joined Bank of America in 2002 as a corporate trainer for consumer collections. She has held various training, leadership development, program management, and human resources roles throughout Bank of America’s Global Human Resources organization.

During her career, Cambria has served on local community redevelopment committees and homelessness taskforces. She also supports numerous military charitable organizations. She currently lives in Newport Beach, CA with her husband and two children.

What made you choose to attend SDSU?

I did college tours, not planning on attending SDSU. But when I visited campus, I had so much fun, and it just felt like home.


What is your favorite college memory?

There isn’t one specific moment that I particularly remember, but I enjoyed the entire experience of being on my own for the first time, and meeting those friends that are now life-long friends.

Who was your favorite professor and/or what was your favorite class?

There were two classes that I found especially fascinating. The first was “Persuasion” with Dr. Peter Andersen. Since I now work in Human Resources, I am able to recognize how people negotiate, how they are trying to influence me. “Bargaining and Negotiation” was a class where I learned about unions and union theories. In my field, I have a strong understanding of labor laws and the Department of Labor requirements. That class exposed me to that knowledge. I also appreciated the real-world experience, outside of the academic environment, that Dr. Susan Hellweg and Dr. Ed McDaniel brought to the classroom.

If you were to give current SDSU students some advice, what would you say?

Question people. Have debate, discuss, dig deeper. Often a class or professor may only present one perspective, and questioning things creates a better school experience and stronger individuals. Also, I would advise students to make decisions based on the future. In today’s world of social media, what you do today can have a serious impact on what you may want to do in the future.

What are you currently reading? What’s your favorite book?

I love the Divergent, Hunger Games, and Girl with a Dragon Tattoo series. I have also been reading a lot of bedtime stories for my children.

What is your passion?

My children, who are perfection, are my passion. I love being a mom.

What is your motto?

Above all else, family comes first. Someone told me once, people at your work won’t remember if you were at absolutely every meeting, but your kids will remember forever that you were there for them.

Tell us the highlights of your professional career. What are your proudest achievements?

I am very proud of what I do every day at my job, and I am proud that I have gotten where I am in my career on my own with really hard work. I believe there is value in both education and the social aspect of life. I would tell students that it is okay to start at the bottom and work your way up.

If you won the lottery, what would you do with your winnings?

I would travel as much as possible, and I would start a non-profit for returning veterans. I would like to buy properties in interesting locations, and offer returning veterans an all-expense paid trip with their families to one of those properties. My husband was in the service, and I know from experience how much families need that time together.

Any other thoughts?

I have worked in corporate training, program development, leadership development and Human Resources, and I have used everything I learned at SDSU. Both my undergraduate and graduate experiences gave me the skill sets I still use today in my “real world” job. When I see job applicants that have a degree in Communication, I know that they should be able to apply their knowledge to many different jobs.
