State Budget Cuts Force Fee Hikes and Furloughs
California’s budget crisis has resulted in state funding cuts amounting to more than $35 million for SDSU during the fiscal year that began last month.  The fallout includes higher student fees and furloughs for faculty and staff.  SDSU President Stephen L. Weber recently addressed the impact of the cutbacks and how the university will cope in the coming year with the new financial constraints.

Alumni Center Construction Wrapping Up
“We’re almost done.”

That’s the assessment of Steve Nelson (’96) of Midwest General, Inc., construction manager for the $11 million Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center.  He says he expects most of the work to be completed by the end of this month at the site on the west side of 55th Street at Hardy Avenue.

If Professor Emeritus Andrew C. Olson (’39) could decide such things, he would have been born and buried on Montezuma Mesa.  As it is, he plans to leave a campus legacy of a life intertwined with San Diego State and represented by the university's iconic Aztec statue.

In his position as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Operations at QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies, James Clifford (’73) travels all over the world.  Yet the San Diego resident and Aztec alumnus had not set foot on the SDSU campus in almost 30 years.
