Cox Arena Now Viejas Arena
SDSU's former Cox Arena is now Viejas Arena. The name change became official July 1 when sponsorship of the building was assumed by the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians.
Earlier this year, Viejas inked a deal with SDSU for the naming rights in a ten-year agreement for approximately $6 million. The facility hosts assemblies, concerts, and is home to the Aztec men's and women's basketball teams.
California Neon Products is the company handling the sign switch from Cox to Viejas. According to Arena Director John Kolek, the process is ongoing.
“All in all, there’s well over 200 signs that are going to be changed," says Kolek.
But more than just signage will be swapped. Even Kolek’s title gets changed from Cox Arena Director to Viejas Arena Director.
